Did you know there are nearly fifty Aggie Traditions you can participate in during your undergrad experience? Students who complete all of these traditions become eligible for a traditions medal to wear at graduation. While it might feel daunting to tackle them all, we’ve put together a list of events happening this month to help you get started. These events can get you started on your traditions and enhance your understanding of what makes UC Davis such a unique and special place! Check out our list to discover upcoming events or activities and see which traditions you may have already completed without even realizing it!

1. Join a Student Club

2. Ride a Bike on Campus or Visit the Bike Barn

Chances are you've already checked off #23 on your Aggie Traditions list—maybe even before classes started! If you've ridden a bike on campus, make sure to stop by the Bike Barn, a full-service repair shop offering bike rentals, sales and free helmets through Helmet Hair Don't Care. Plus, take part in the Lit Not Hit program to score a free bike light and stay safe while riding!

3. Attend a UC Davis Athletics Event

UC Davis teams compete in NCAA Division I, with over 800 student-athletes representing 25 sports. Plus, home games are free for all students! On October 12, attend the Homecoming game against Cal Poly, cheer on the Aggies and check off #8 on your Aggie Traditions list. While tailgating, learn the Aggie Fight Song to sing during the game and complete #18, "Aggie Fight":

Lift up your voices / Now's the time to sing / This is the day / The victory bell will ring / Loyal Aggies, all for one / Never stopping 'till we've won / Because the Mustang will show / Our team the way to fight / Charging the enemy / With all his might / Let's go, Let's win, Today's the day / The Aggies will Fight, Fight, Fight!

And as an added bonus, after the victory, complete #24 by joining the UC Davis Marching Band in ringing the Tavernetti Victory Bell!

4. Shop at the Davis Farmers Market

Just like bike riding, the farmers market is a core part of Davis culture, making shopping at the Davis Farmers Market #5 on your Aggie Traditions list. Located at Fourth and C Street, the Davis Farmers Market is a beloved weekly event. Every Saturday morning, rain or shine, you'll find the market bustling with activity. Starting in October, you can also visit the market on Wednesdays from 3-6 PM.

5. Attend a Cultural Day Event

Aggies take great pride in celebrating their diverse cultures and heritages. Every year, students work to enhance cultural diversity on campus, raise awareness and share their cultures with the broader student body. Through student-run events like powwows, cultural fairs and guest speaker series, there are many opportunities to complete #39 on your Aggie Traditions list.

UC Davis Cultural Events

On October 19, join the Light Festival - Glow in Unity, presented by The Cross Cultural Center (CCC) and celebrate the Asian and Pacific Islander (AandPI) and Middle Eastern, North African and South Asian (MENASA) communities. Enjoy a variety of vendors showcasing unique arts, crafts and one-of-a-kind trinkets, along with delicious foods offering a true culinary adventure. The event also features captivating performances by talented students and professional groups. Previously known as the Night Market, this event has transformed into a breathtaking light festival, expanding its scope to embody the spirit of unity and foster an inclusive environment for everyone to come together.

6. Register to Vote

ASUCD is a dedicated group of students running the student government, with elections taking place every fall and winter quarter. Executive and Senate members serve one-year terms, shaping campus life and student representation. This fall, as you vote in the ASUCD elections, you can also register for the 2024 General Election by October 21. After this date, you'll need to complete the Same-Day Voter Registration process at a Voter Assistance Center (VAC). Complete #11 on your Aggie Traditions list by voting in the ASUCD elections and the 2024 General Election—make your voice heard on campus and beyond.
