A Message From Student Affairs Leadership About DACA
Dear UC Davis student,
As we face the rescission of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), we write to assure you that UC Davis Student Affairs remains committed to access and degree attainment for ALL students. We affirm the strong statements against reversing DACA issued by UC Davis Chancellor May, University of California President Napolitano and the UC Regents.
We are watching this issue closely as we advocate for our students and our communities, and we will provide updates as we learn more. In the meantime, please review this guidance from the UC Immigrant Legal Service Center (PDF) as well as the important details below:
- Financial Aid
There are NO CHANGES to California’s AB 540 (in-state tuition exemption waiver) or the California Dream Act Application (for state and institutional aid). Students who receive financial aid through the California Dream Act should still apply for financial aid, and we will continue to allocate funding. However, changes to DACA might impact institutional Work-Study eligibility. - Work Authorization and DACA Renewal
Your work authorization does not expire until your individual DACA status expires. DACA issuances and work permits that expire between now and March 5, 2018, must be submitted for renewal by October 5, 2017. To learn more, visit the National Immigration Law Center website. - Advance Parole
You can no longer apply for Advance Parole to travel outside the country. If you have a pending Advance Parole associated with DACA, it will be closed and your fee refunded. If you are out of the country with DACA-based Advance Parole, we encourage you to work with an attorney and return to the United States as soon as practicable.
While the uncertainty related to DACA can be unsettling, please know that Student Affairs offers a number of resources to help you balance your personal needs and focus on successfully completing your educational goals.
